Soccer Pre-Season Meeting

Before the soccer season gets kicked off it is crucial to start off by having a mandatory meeting with both parents and players. This meeting should be organized in a manner that establishes team rules and sets both player and parent's expectations for the upcoming soccer season. This meeting should take about 30-45 minutes and can be held at the beginning or end of your first practice session. Here are some ideas on how to organize your meeting:

1. Introduce yourself.

  • introduce your child (if you have a child playing on this team)
  • introduce your family
  • background and talk about previous experience coaching soccer
  • talk about your coaching philosophy
  • disciplinary guidelines
  • ask for volunteer help if you have volunteer needs

2. Introduce your assistant coaches and let them:
  • introduce their child (if they have a child playing on the team)
  • introduce their family
  • give background information and previous coaching experience
  • talk about their coaching philosophy

3. Talk about your plans for the season:
  • Your expectations for the year
  • practice schedule and location
  • player development (player homework, practice structure)
  • game schedules and snacks
  • equipment needed (ball, shin guards, socks, shoes and water jug)
  • cancellation policy
  • contact info and communication policy (phone tree, email distribution list)
  • uniforms
  • team roster
  • fund raising opportunities
  • Questions and Answers
If you have any other soccer pre-season meeting suggestions, drop me a comment and I'll add it to the list.

Have a good season!
